Sons of Turner Call for entries

Fellow Sons (and daughters),

I am going to try to set up a space for the S.O.T. to have a show. The guidelines are only that the pieces would have to derive from your photos or sketches from the trips. Depending on the space, we would like to have a wall from each trip.

No concrete due date yet because half of the trip to Maine hasn't even begun.

If anyone has any ideas as to where they would like to hold the show, let me know.

  1. We should be able to put on a show that represents the acheivements and value of these trips in terms of output. Obviously many of us derive great value from the trips emotionally or in terms of encouragement, but it would be interesting to walk into a gallry space and see work that derived from Santa Fe, from Savannah and from Maine. Some people may have three pieces in the show, some one or two, but the overall impact would be that work has emerged becaise of the things that we have seen and experienced over the years.

  2. I think this would be amazing. There's a gallery in forest park that's always looking for pieces from different artists, but I bet we could talk to her about the idea of this themed show and she'd love it! Her name is Lisa Dodge and the gallery is American Artworks Gallery Ltd.

  4. Fantastic. Spread the word. I'll mention it to everyone arriving tomorrow. We'll begin to plan.

  5. I'm in! I have maybe 2 paintings to contribute (one from each trip, excluding Maine of course...)

  6. I can talk to the owner of the Jackson Junge gallery in Wicker Park. Really nice space and location is pretty nice - on Milwaukee between Ashland and Damon. I also like Caleb's idea of showing in Pilsen. I think in relation to this, we should set up a gallery webpage of work for people to come online and see. It can be our sketches, paintings, process pieces... I'll think about it more... Maybe we should all pitch in and buy www.sonsofturner.com. It would be cheap.

Basically just a thumbnail page showcasing our work from the trips. Clean and simple, with a brief bio page, but mainly just exists as a gallery. I can design it, and someone else could code it (I have a friend who could do it for a small fee).

  7. I might have a friend that can code it. I'm working on a site for him right now so he kind of owes me. Caleb's space would be great too.

I'd like for it to be an ongoing thing so the pieces would be constantly displayed at several places over the course of a year maybe.

  8. Agreed - a small (or large) traveling show would be awesome. Take the Sons to the people! Let me know what I can do to help...

  9. I'm all in for this project. The website would be a great way to show our work. We should also add short stories/experiences of our travels.

  10. Just got off the phone with people from the Bloomingdale Park District Museum, they may be able to host us in 2012 for 5-6 weeks. I'm sending an email with examples of our work right now.

  11. Fabulous. I'm in for anything that comes along. I love it that you guys are getting this moving. The existing sons of Turner website is on my .mac account so it would be better to start allover again and scrap what I have.
